BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An east Bakersfield park is back and better than ever after getting an upgrade on Wednesday.

Kern County leaders and community partners gathered at Heritage Park on Bernard Street Oct. 9 for its grand re-opening. A new shaded play structure, a shaded group picnic pavilion, new lighted walking paths, dozens of new trees, a mural and many more improvements have been added to the park.

“This is a place where we want to encourage people to be healthy and be able to congregate and have a good time,” said Chief Administrative Officer, Nancy Anderson. “And you need a nice space to be able to do that.”

All this is part of the so-called Heritage Park Beautification project, which was funded through a $4.2 million grant from the state in an effort to enhance local parks.

The county is using over $51 million in to complete similar parks around the county.
