BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The trial of Jonathan Knight, charged with the murder of 5-year-old Kason Guyton, is entering its end stages. Closing arguments could be presented as early as Tuesday.

Testimony may finish Monday in the weekslong trial, which has featured Knight’s former co-defendant and Kason’s brother take the stand and speak in detail about the car-to-car shooting that killed Kason seven years ago.

Knight faces life in prison if convicted. It’s alleged he was targeting a rival gang member on Feb. 23, 2017, and unintentionally hit Kason and Kason’s then-7-year-old brother.

Jeremy King testified he drove the car Knight fired from. King accepted a plea deal in exchange for his testimony and a sentence of six years. He has enough custody credits that he’s expected to be released when sentenced next month.
