BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman who allowed her unlicensed teen son to drive and a fatal crash occurred has been ordered to stand trial, according to court records.

A judge on Monday found sufficient evidence for the case against Candie Springer to proceed. She’s charged with felony child cruelty and a misdemeanor count of allowing an unlicensed person to operate a motor vehicle.

Springer is due back in court Oct. 31.

Last year, Springer let her then- 15-year-old son take her Dodge Challenger for what she thought would be a quick trip to the market.

Jace Springer instead picked up friends, sped on city streets and led police on a chase that ended with the car crashing into a tree. A passenger died.

Jace Springer accepted a plea agreement in juvenile court last year.

All the kids fault , 15 yr old should know better than to run from the police , his friend that got killed was probably telling him to run , because if he was telling him to pull over I guarantee the driver would’ve stopped and pulled over.

This just proves once again how backwards our criminal system is , the kid ran from the police and killed his friend , he will probably get released with probation , however his mom will get charged with manslaughter and have to serve 30 years when she didn’t do anything wrong other than let the kid run to the store really quick , there’s nothing wrong with that, the kid is the one who took off and drove all over town picking up friends taking them on a joyride which his mom didn’t approve of him doing and then the kid runs from the police for breaking the traffic laws , everything should be pinned on the kid not the mom , she didn’t say that he could do what he did. That kid basically broke all her rules and the laws rules which the mom didn’t approve. 15 yr old kid should know better , we get our license at 15 1/2 or 16. I got a ticket at 16 and it was my fault and I got into an accident when I was 16 and it wasn’t my fault but the 16 yr old girl took the blaim not her parents.
