BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The rich and vibrant culture of the Philippines will be celebrated this upcoming weekend in Delano.

The 46th annual Philippine Weekend takes place Oct. 19 and 20 at Forty Acres in Delano located at 30168 Garces Highway. Organizers say it will include vendors and other events and cultural activities for visitors.

The weekend is packed with events and begins Friday with an adobo cook-off. That takes place at 5 p.m. at Forty Acres.

The weekend’s schedule includes golf and basketball tournaments, a parade on Main Street in Delano at 10 a.m., a car show and a singing contest. An opening ceremony begins at noon.

Jay Tamsi, organizer of the Philippine Weekend and president of the Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said the event is an exciting one for families and for children to learn more about the Filipino culture. The festival had been on a five-year hiatus, Tamsi said.
