BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Community Action Partnership of Kern broke ground on its new Central Kitchen in southeast Bakersfield.

The new kitchen is located on Feliz Drive in southeast Bakersfield. The organization had been providing meals for its Head Start and State Preschool programs from the kitchen of an old Olive Garden Restaurant. The new state-of-the-art facility will have a crucial role in nourishing the minds and bodies of children enrolled in its programs.

“We are here to and provide access to healthy, nutritious food,” Susana Magana, CAPK’s Director of Health and Nutrition said. “Many of the kids, this in the most healthy meal that they’re going to get in their day. And so for us, it’s really important to not only provide that meal but to provide that education, so they’re able to later in life make those healthier choices.”

Leaders say the Central Kitchen will also help the community by creating jobs and strengthening the local food economy.
