    Child severely hurt after being struck by vehicle in central Bakersfield

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — An 8-year-old child was seriously hurt Wednesday after he was struck by a vehicle in central Bakersfield, officials said.

    Emergency responders were called to Bank Street and Holtby Road for a report of someone being struck by a vehicle at around 1:45 p.m.

    Juvenile arrested in death of Lamont 12-year-old identified

    The collision happened near Roosevelt Elementary. School district officials confirmed it was a student.

    The Bakersfield Fire Department said the 8-year-old was in critical condition and was taken to Kern Medical for treatment.

    The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the collision.

    There needs to be crossing guards and speed bumps

    people drive way too fast in school zones and not paying attention to children I have personally seen people drive through school zones doing 50 mph and on their phone when it's supposed to be 25 mph people just don't obey the law anymore
