    Pedestrian struck and killed on South King Street: BPD

    BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A pedestrian has died after he was hit by a pickup truck next to Union Cemetery in east Bakersfield Wednesday evening.

    The fatal collision happened at 7:30 p.m., on Oct. 16th in the 900 block of South King Street. Investigators say the pedestrian was in the roadway, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a green pickup traveling southbound.

    The man died at the scene. By KGET’s count this is the 42nd pedestrian death in Kern County in 2024.

    The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators investigation.

    BPD says it does not appear speed or impairment contributed to the collision.
