University of Hawaii wide receiver Steven McBride rejoined team activities on Tuesday. However, he remains ineligible for game participation as he resolves an undisclosed eligibility issue unrelated to his recent suspension.

McBride had been suspended indefinitely from all team activities after he was arrested on felony abuse charges in July. Since then, the arrest was reclassified and the Louisiana native was charged with two counts of petty misdemeanor abuse instead of felony abuse of family.

The senior pass-catcher practiced with the team on Tuesday and worked on the scout team offense against the first team defense.

“Yeah, Steven McBride is going through all drills and he’s back on team activities with us and so, it’s good to have him back, you know, he just wants to be better,” said Rainbow Warriors head coach Timmy Chang.

The undisclosed eligibility issue remains unresolved at this point according to Chang.

“As of right now, not sure if he will be able to come back. We’re just glad to have him back and giving us a look right now. He’s on scout team and just giving our defense a look.”

McBride, who played his first three years of collegiate football for Kansas, made an immediate impact in his first season for UH in 2023, racking up a team-high 1,024 receiving yards with nine touchdowns.

The Rainbow Warriors will complete training camp at the end of the week. UH’s season opener is set for August 24 against Delaware State.
