Hawaii soccer rallies to win season opener

The University of Hawaii soccer team began its 2024 season with a 3-2 win over Georgia Southern on Thursday night at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine won their first season opener since 2017.

Georgia Southern led 2-1 at halftime after goals from Smith Cathey and Kendall Wilson, while Brynn Mitchell scored for Hawaii.

Tatum Porter’s goal in the 80th minute to equalize the game, while Nalani Damacion’s goal in the 86th minute gave the Rainbow Wahine their first lead.

Hawaii will wrap up its weekend on Sunday against Utah State at 2:30 p.m.
