HONOLULU (KHON2) — A taste of Korea is coming to Honolulu’s Ward Village with the launch of ONKEE Korean Grill House, opening August 28 on the second floor of Koula.

South Korea-based SG Hospitality is investing over $3 million in this new venture, creating a 7,000-square-foot space filled with authentic Korean touches—from imported grilling tables and earthenware crocks to beautiful artwork and lanterns.

The new restaurant isn’t just a business move for SG Hospitality; it’s a heartfelt tribute to Hawaii.

President David Kang, who moved to Hawaii in 1990 and honed his food and beverage skills locally, and Grace Park, wife of Founder & CEO Skye Kim, are both deeply connected to the islands. Park, a former LPGA champion and Mid-Pacific Institute grad, grew up in Hawaii and comes from a family with a long history in Korean barbecue through the renowned Samwon Garden in Seoul.

ONKEE Korean Grill House aims to offer a unique dining experience, blending modern and traditional Korean elements.

The restaurant boasts top-notch grills and high-quality meats sourced from the U.S. and Japan, all set in a space that mixes neutral tones with the warmth of Korean design.

While many positions have been filled, the restaurant is still looking for an assistant manager, waitstaff, bus help, and cooks.

“We’re thrilled to be part of Honolulu’s growing food scene,” said Skye Kim. “Our goal is to share our Korean heritage through exceptional cuisine and create a welcoming, authentic environment for our local friends and neighbors.”

ONKEE Korean Grill House will be open Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
