HONOLULU (KHON2) — The University of Hawaii is advising commuters and nearby residents to expect heavy traffic around UH Manoa on Saturday, August 24, due to the UH Rainbow Warriors football team’s home opener against Delaware State at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.

The game kicks off at 6 p.m., but traffic is expected to start building up in the early afternoon, especially on the H-1 Freeway and surrounding roads like University Avenue, Dole Street, and Waialae Avenue.

To manage the influx of vehicles, UH staff and special duty HPD officers will be stationed around the campus to help keep traffic moving smoothly.

The university will also use advanced parking technology and coordinate with the city to adjust traffic lights if necessary.

Parking will be available in the lower campus structure starting at 2 p.m., but fans must have a pre-purchased parking pass to enter. Passes are available for $25 at etickethawaii.com.

To avoid delays, fans should have their parking pass ready—either mobile or printed—when they reach the parking kiosks.

Upper campus lots will also open at 2 p.m. and are available on game day for $15.

Payments can be made by credit card or mobile wallet only; cash is not accepted. Access to these lots is via East-West Road off Dole Street or Maile Way off University Avenue.

For directions to the stadium, fans can use a provided link to view the stadium’s location relative to their current spot (location services must be enabled).

For those planning to park in nearby neighborhoods, please be courteous to residents by not blocking driveways or creating excessive noise.

The “Kickoff at the Les” event begins at 4 p.m., offering fans access to Les Murakami Stadium’s field with music, entertainment, vendors, food, drink options, and a Keiki Zone.
