HONOLULU (KHON2) — A bell-ringing ceremony was held for the victims of the Nagasaki atomic bombing Thursday morning.

August 9th marked the 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki.

To honor the victims, families and friends went to the Frank Fasi Civic Center grounds, home to the Nagasaki Bell, to ring it in memoriam of the lives lost.

The bell is a memorial gift from survivors of the bombing.

In 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, resulting in the deaths of over 70,000 people and leading to the conclusion of World War II.
