It’s World Championship weekend in the World Surf League, as the Lexus WSL Finals are set to take place in San Clemente, California.

The WSL Commissioner’s Office has issued a Yellow Alert, indicating that the competition is likely to proceed on Friday. Officials will assess the conditions early in the morning and make a final call by 4:30 a.m. HST.

Among the Hawai’i surfers competing in the final five bracket-style event is two-time world champion John John Florence of Haleiwa, who enters the men’s competition as the top seed.

On the women’s side, Olympic silver medalist, Kaua’i’s Tatiana Weston-Webb, representing Brazil, and North Shore’s Brisa Hennessy, competing for Costa Rica, will look to claim the title.

If conditions allow, the single-day contest for the Duke Kahanamoku World Champions Trophy is expected to take place on Friday.

The competition will be broadcast LIVE on WorldSurfLeague.com and the free WSL app.
