HONOLULU (KHON2) — A weather front north of the islands will stay in place until Friday and then start moving south toward the islands over the weekend. Light to moderate trade winds will continue, with sea breezes forming in sheltered areas each afternoon. By Sunday night and Monday, the front will weaken near or just north of Kauai, and another front will follow, weakening near Kauai late Monday through Tuesday. This will bring kona (leeward) to the islands, with sea and land breezes becoming more common. The front will then turn into a trough, moving westward on Wednesday and next Thursday, allowing trade winds to return and strengthen.

Overall, expect mostly dry conditions through the weekend with light showers in windward and mauka areas. Kona winds may bring a few showers to interior and leeward spots each afternoon. Early next week, kona winds will bring more showers to interior areas in the afternoon and coastal waters at night. Kauai may see more showers due to decaying fronts, while the rest of the state will have limited shower coverage. By Wednesday and next Thursday, trade winds will return, focusing showers back over windward areas, though dry conditions are likely to continue.
