The University of Hawai‘i football team will make its first road trip of the season to face Sam Houston in a non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The matchup will be the first meeting between the Rainbow Warriors and the Bearkats, with a return game scheduled for next season in Honolulu.

Hawai‘i (1-1) was idle last week following a two-game homestand that included a win over Delaware State and a loss to UCLA. Sam Houston (1-1) is coming off a 45-14 road loss to UCF. The Bearkats began the season with a 34-14 victory over Rice, also on the road.

The Rainbow Warriors’ roster features eight players from Texas, including key contributors QB Brayden Schager (Highland Park), WR Pofele Ashlock (Euless), WR/RS Tylan Hines (Mt. Pleasant), CB Cam Stone (Angleton), and DL Daniel “Sauce” Williams (San Antonio).

Schager is nearing career milestones, needing 65 passing yards to reach 7,000. He would become just the fifth quarterback in UH history to reach that mark. He also needs one passing touchdown to tie Chevan Cordeiro for sixth all-time in program history and three more to match Garrett Gabriel for fifth. A start on Saturday would also be Schager’s 25th consecutive, tying him with Gabriel for second-most in program history. The UH record of 26 consecutive starts was set by Bryant Moniz from 2009-2011.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. HST. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on radio via ESPN Honolulu.
