HONOLULU (KHON2) — In the midst of a strike planned this Friday, Kapiolani Medical Center and the Hawaii Nurses’ Association will meet the night before to continue contract negotiations.

The two sides met on Monday in a conversation that was described as productive however, a deal has still not been reached.

Kapiolani Medical Center issued a statement Monday evening to confirm the meeting in hopes of moving forward with a new contract.

“We have been discussing the priorities of the nurses at all times. And it’s about patient safety, making sure that we have enough nurses for each patient it’s been shown that even now like that, it could be easily taken care of without negotiations,” said Rosalee Agas-Yuu, HNA President.

Hundreds of nurses plan to attend Friday’s strike. While the hospital is committed to reaching a deal, Kapiolani warns HNA nurses of a lockout if they participate.

Since January, both sides have met 30 times to negotiate.
