HONOLULU (KHON2) — U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda honored the memory of the Maui wildfire victims upon her return to Congress on Tuesday morning at the nation’s capitol.

While on the House floor, Tokuda read the names of the victims from the Aug. 8, 2023 Maui wildfires and those who are still missing, entering them into the Congressional record.

“Today as Congress reconvenes, I rise to remember and honor the family and friends that we lost. They’re beloved mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, grandparents and grandchildren, brothers and sisters, friends and life partners. Their ages span almost a century from our youngest keiki just seven years to a cherished kupuna aged 97. Many have lived their entire lives in Lahaina, others chose to make Lahaina their home having come from away, places across the United States and abroad,” said Tokuda.

One hundred and two people died on Aug. 8 and two people remain unaccounted for.
