HONOLULU (KHON2) — Weather remains stable as the islands are between a weak high-pressure system to the south and a distant low-pressure system to the north. A weakening low-pressure system about 700 miles north of Oahu is slowly moving west. This setup has caused light winds across the state, with sea and land breezes becoming more common. Tonight, light southeasterly winds around the Big Island will shift to more southerly directions over the other islands. As the low-pressure system weakens and drifts northwest, light southeast to southerly breezes will prevail over the smaller islands, while easterly trade winds will return to the Big Island by late Wednesday or Thursday.

Increased moisture from the east will boost rain chances from Friday through Sunday, with typical trade winds enhancing shower activity. Expect more frequent overnight showers, particularly on windward slopes and higher elevations, while leeward areas, except for afternoon showers on the Kona slopes of the Big Island, should stay mostly dry.
