HONOLULU (KHON2) — Firefighters in Kauai have contained about 60% of a fire on a ridge above Wainiha Powerhouse Road, which has burned an estimated 20 acres.

As part of the response, helicopters Air 1 and Air 3 will continue water drops until sunset Thursday, while crews work to assess hot spots.

Firefighters and private landowners will monitor the area overnight from a command post set up at Camp Naue.

Efforts to combat the fire will resume Friday morning with the help of personnel from the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife.

Currently, there are no road closures, and homes in the area are not under threat.

Emergency responders from the Hanalei Fire Station, along with Air 1, Air 2, Air 3, the on-duty Battalion Chief, private landowners, Rescue 3, Tanker 1, and the Kauai Police Department are all involved in the firefighting efforts.

The Kauai Emergency Management Agency is also on standby, ready to assist if needed.

The fire was first reported around 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
