HONOLULU (KHON2) — There’s still time to participate in the Hawaiian Humane Society’s flash adoption special.

Even though the shelter recently celebrated its “Clear the Shelters Month,” the momentous achievement was quickly overshadowed.

During the “Clear the Shelters Month” initiative, more than 800 families adopted a new four-legged friend for their ohana.

At the same time, 1,199 pets also came into its care meaning each kennel opened filled immediately and then some.

“This is really important because when we’re feeling our resources being stretched as much as they are, it limits our community and our ability to help the vulnerable pets who need us most,” explained Brandy Shimabukuro, Manager of Communications.

To combat its critical capacity, the Humane Society waived adoption fees for all dogs and cats through the end of September at the Moiliili Campus, Kosasa Family Campus at Hoopili, Pounce Hawaii and select PETCOs around Oahu.

“If I could make a plea to anybody, it’s if you love animals and you’ve been thinking about adding a pet to your family, consider adoption first because it makes a life-saving impact for animals in need,” Shimabukuro added.

Head over to the Hawaiian Humane Society to take advantage of this special. For more information, visit the Hawaiian Humane Society’s website.

I already take care of 40 cats. I think I’ve done my dues the trouble with the Humane Society. They won’t come out and help people get them fixed. I don’t have a vehicle anymore. That is safe to put an animal in with no air conditioning. Just going to the store picking up the cat food to keep these feral cats alive. I tried fixing most of them. I’m getting too old for this shit so, where is the help for people like me? Come out to the west side and help get these animals fixed. I don’t have a problem feeding them. I have a problem getting them to where you need Spay and neutered then you are just too damn far away and it’s stresses out the animals driving them there and me listening to them cry in the hot car. tell the truth, how many of these animals you euthanize.
