    Maui Fire Department set to release ATF report on Lahaina wildfires

    HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety (MFD) has received the long-awaited report on the Lahaina wildfires from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

    The report was delivered on Monday, September 23, 2024, and Fire Chief Brad Ventura was briefed on its findings today.

    In an effort to provide a comprehensive overview, MFD is currently integrating the ATF’s investigative insights into its own Cause and Origin report.

    The ATF report will be included as an appendix, ensuring that the public has access to all relevant information.

    A live-streamed press conference is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 2, 2024, where MFD will share a summary of the key findings.

    The full Cause and Origin Report on the August 8, 2023, wildfires will be released to the public at the conclusion of this event. Details about the press conference will be shared in advance.
