HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Aloha Festivals celebration wraps up this weekend with the 76th annual floral parade, featuring a vibrant procession of intricate floats making their way through Waikiki.

Chris Latronic from WakeUp2Day went live from Pier 23 to give viewers a sneak preview of the floats and share details about the parade. He spoke with Tyler Gomes, Chief Administrator of Kilohana by CNHA, who discussed the organization’s involvement in the festivities and their first float in the parade.

Monte McComber, Aloha Festivals Board Member and Cultural Director of the Royal Hawaiian Center, shared insights about this year’s event and the various materials used to create each float. The theme for this year’s parade, ʻAʻa I Ka Hula “Dare to Dance,” celebrates the resilience and dedication of ancestors and kumu hula in preserving the art of hula.

“It’s a celebration of the art of hula and its importance in our cultural heritage,” said Makana McClellan, Aloha Festivals Parade Chair. Māhealani Mika, Creative Director and Producer of Nā Lei Aloha, also highlighted their involvement in the parade, including their debut float.

KHON2 will broadcast the 76th annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade live on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 10 AM to 12 PM.
