The University of Hawai’i football team will travel to San Diego to open Mountain West Conference play in a nationally televised game against rival San Diego State on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Snapdragon Stadium.

Hawai’i (2-2, 0-0 MW) is coming off a bye week. Two weeks ago, the Rainbow Warriors evened their record with a 36-7 victory over Northern Iowa. In that game, UH posted season highs in points (36), total yards (528), passing yards (379), rushing yards (149), and first downs (29).

San Diego State (1-3, 0-0) dropped its third straight game last week, falling 22-21 to Central Michigan. The Aztecs led 21-10 before CMU rallied, scoring the final 12 points and sealing the win with a last-second field goal.

Hawai’i has struggled in nationally televised games, losing its last 11 and 14 of its last 15, dating back to the start of the 2021 season.

This week’s matchup marks the 39th meeting between the two teams, with San Diego State holding a 25-11-2 advantage. The Aztecs have dominated the series recently, winning 10 of the last 12 meetings and 19 of the last 23. SDSU has won four straight against UH, with the Rainbow Warriors last winning back-to-back games in 2018 and 2019.

Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. HST and will be televised on CBS Sports Network. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN Honolulu radio.
