Kapiolani Medical Center nurses vote on tentative contract agreement

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Nurses at Kapiolani Medical Center are voting on a tentative contract agreement this Friday after over a year of challenging negotiations, which included two strikes, ten arrests, and a lockout.

The Hawaii Nurses’ Association reports that a key issue—staffing ratios—has been addressed in the new agreement.

If ratified, the nurses will be able to return to work on Sunday.

The vote follows extensive discussions with federal mediators aimed at resolving longstanding disputes between the hospital and its nursing staff.
