Thousands flood downtown Honolulu for Children and Youth Day

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Thousands of keiki and their families headed to downtown Honolulu at the Frank Fasi Civic Center to enjoy a day outdoors fo the 31st Hawaii Children and Youth Day.

More than 90 organizations came together for the entire ohana, including AlohaCare, a nonprofit health plan.

AlohaCare officials said this year’s theme was Ola Kino Maikai or “Total Well-Being” and aims to recognize the potential and special gifts of Hawaii’s youth.

Keiki were treated to goodie bags, educational activities, entertainment and even photos with their favorite characters.

“CYD is the perfect event to celebrate alongside families with children since more than 40
percent of our members are under the age of 21,” said AlohaCare CEO Francoise Cully-Trotman.

AlohaCare also celebrated its 30th anniversary and said their health and wellness tent at the event served as a “thank you” to the community.

“For 31 years, we have tried very hard to engage all the young people we can here. Have their families and friends have a great time together but also to learn, to have fun and actually have really memorable family time together,” said Suzanne Chun Oakland, Children and Youth Day Chair.
