The fire, which is currently 70% contained, poses no immediate threat to homes or structures. Park staff will be present at the Maunaulu parking lot to provide fire information and ensure visitor safety during ongoing helicopter operations.

The blaze was ignited by the September 15 eruption of Kilauea and has intensified recently due to dry conditions, including low humidity and wind.

Firefighters are facing challenges posed by difficult terrain, dense vegetation, and multiple burning snags, which increase the risk of reburning.
