According to Governor Josh Green M.D., UH President David Lassner and the UH Board of Regents, the agreement was reached more than eight months before the current contract expires.

Governor Green, Lassner and the Board of Regents bargained with the UHPA to create the multi-party, two-year contract, which if accepted, will begin on July 1, 2025.

The current contract for UH faculty will expire on June 30, 2025.

“Reaching a tentative agreement more than half a year before the expiration of the current contract is a testament to the power of collaboration,“ stated Christian Fern, executive director of UHPA.

Reports said all four parties must agree to the terms and conditions of the new contract.

The new agreement states faculty members will receive a 3.5% wage increase in the first year and a 3.79% increase in the second year. It also “mirrors the last two years of the Hawaii State Teachers Association agreement with the state.”

We are deeply grateful to Governor Green, UHPA and their teams for this positive collaborative outcome that will provide well-deserved increases for our hard-working faculty members. This will ensure stability in our relationship as a new president takes the helm of the UH system and enable our faculty to focus on the incredible work they do each and every day across instruction, research and service with and for our students and communities throughout our islands.

According to Governor Green, the contract will also help attract and retain faculty to help develop future leaders and citizens within the University of Hawaii’s 10-campus system.
