The Rainbow Wahine, the reigning Big West regular-season champions, received six first-place votes and totaled 96 points, while UC Irvine, last season’s Big West tournament champion, earned five first-place votes and 95 points in second.
Seniors Daejah Phillips and Lily Wahinekapu were selected to the Preseason Coaches’ Team for the second straight year.
Phillips, an All-Big West First Team selection last season, averaged 10.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, and earned Big West Sixth Player of the Year honors for the second time.
Wahinekapu, who led UH with 11.6 points per game overall and 13.0 points per game in conference play, was named to the All-Big West Second Team.
The Rainbow Wahine return 10 letterwinners from last season’s 20-11 squad, which finished 17-3 in conference play, won the Big West regular-season title, and earned a bid to the inaugural Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
UH will play an exhibition against Hawai’i Hilo on Oct. 27 before opening the regular season at Portland on Nov. 7.
The Rainbow Warriors return five letterwinners but lose their top six scorers from last season. They welcome eight newcomers, including key transfers Tanner Christensen (Utah Tech), Marcus Greene (Houston Christian), Gytis Nemeikša (Xavier), and Jerome Palm (Valparaiso).
UH will begin its regular season on Nov. 8 against Life Pacific in the OUTRIGGER Rainbow Classic, with San Jose State and Pacific also competing in the tournament.
