HONOLULU (KHON) — State Senator Kurt Fevella is urging community members and legislative leaders to take decisive action to address the increasing gun violence across Hawaii.

Fevella, a Republican representing Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point, and Ewa Villages, emphasized the need for a hands-on approach.

“It’s not about having one task force or a single meeting in a conference room. We need to engage directly with individuals in the community and convey that carrying a gun to intimidate or threaten others is unacceptable,” he said.

He further asserted that to combat violence effectively, the focus must return to fundamental community involvement.

“Don’t blame the police or law enforcement; blame the families,” Fevella stated, advocating for a collective responsibility to foster safer environments.

In response to rising concerns, the Department of Law Enforcement has recently launched a gun tip line that allows individuals to anonymously report illegal gun ownership and gun-related crimes.
