    Moped rider, 59, in critical condition after McCully crash

    MCCULLY, Hawaii (KHON2) — A man has been hospitalized in critical condition following a moped versus motor vehicle collision in McCully.

    Honolulu Emergency Medical Services reported the crash happened shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of South King Street and Isenberg Street.

    According to Honolulu police, a 59-year-old male moped rider was traveling southbound on Isenberg Street, where he ran a red light.

    He then collided with a female driver traveling eastbound on South King Street as he crossed the intersection.

    The moped operator was taken to the hospital. Reports said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

    Officials added the female driver sustained minor injuries and declined further treatment at the scene.

    The investigation remains ongoing.

    Moped riders need to learn to wear a helmet. They are at a disadvantage, ie., in the case of car vs moped, car is always going to win. Please, at least, protect your brain. 🙏
