(KHQA) — The West Central FS, along with the Hancock County Farm Bureau, held their annual biodiesel/ethanol fuel discount day, which helps promote the use of biofuel in the area.The event was held to help kick off the harvesting season, beginning in September.West Central FS energy manager Brant Herring says the event has helped the community for a long time."This is the 21st year for our ethanol days here at west central in Carthage, and so we've been proudly helping the community members that come in for 21 years," Herring said.One local Hancock County farmer says the event also provides education about how the two fuels are beneficial."We want to promote the knowledge about what our fuels do for our community and how they also then help the agricultural side of our community," said Lane Sinele, local farmer.The two biofuels used at the event, ethanol and biodiesel, are important because it drives the demand of crops grown locally such as corn and soybeans.Herring and Sinele explain the benefits of going for biofuel opposed to gasoline."Ethanol is great for the cars, great for the engines and it also helps support our local farmers because we're putting in what they're growing and it also helps the environment because it is a renewable fuel source utilizing the crops that our local farmers produce," said Herring."It helps improve the value of the crops. It is also good for the environment and its good for your water, it's good for the air, and it's good for our country if you think about being independent from an energy standpoint," Sinele said.Individuals who came out and received the discounted fuel were also treated to a lunch courtesy of the Farm Bureau and West Central FS.</div></body>
