GuardiansSCV teamed up with the Los Angeles Dream Center to help their community of Veterans last Saturday with some general painting on the Dream Center Veteran floor.

“I wasn’t sure at first how much I could help (the Guardians). I know I had some skills that could be useful, but since I wasn’t part of their specific community, I wasn’t sure if I understood everything that they needed. But the people who come (to the weekly meetings) are open, honest, and hopeful. It’s just amazing to be apart of it,” said Vanessa Smith-Williams, current Director of Operations.

The Dream Center provides opportunities for people to rebuild and transform their lives and offer the tools, education, community and support through various programs they offer.

Over the last few years, the Guardians have joined forces several times with the Los Angeles Dream Center to support their community of homeless Veterans.

Past collaborations have included general gardening, sprinkler repair and arbor sanding for the women’s veteran housing.

Last year GuardiansSCV was honored with the dream Center carpooling their members to their weekly Monday night meetings.

As Guardians SCV continues to grow and reach out to the specific communities of Military, Law Enforcement and firefighters, it becomes increasingly evident how much work remains, according to officials.

Guardians SCV strives to help by offering meetings, monthly family dinners, leadership opportunities and service projects.

Service projects that include pulling weeds and painting may not seem like much, but getting out there, showing up, and doing something for someone else impacts people in a lot of ways.

Not only are the Guardians improving the space they are working in, but they are also physically active, bonding with those around them, and instilling hope in those they are helping as a gesture of care and compassion.
