New Housing Community Proposed At Saugus Swap Meet

A new proposal has been submitted that would add 318 residential units among other on-site improvements to the location of the Saugus Swap Meet.

The proposal , submitted by Integral Communities, seeks to construct 122 detached single-family condos and 196 attached townhomes, 22 of which are identified as “affordable,” known as the “Riverview Project,” according to planning commission officials.

“It would go to the planning commission for a decision,” said Jason Crawford, Planning, Marketing and Economic Development Manager of the City of Santa Clarita.

In addition, the proposal includes a 122,000-square-foot industrial manufacturing building, a community recreation area. The project is expected to be approximately 35.2 acres, according to officials.

The iconic location, formally known as the Saugus Speedway, was met with online rumors earlier this year that the venue would be shutting down at the end of March. The Bonelli family, owners of the Saugus Speedway, met the rumors with frustration refuting the claim that a final deal had not been reached.

Last year, the Bonelli family spoke exclusively to KHTS about the potential sale.

“I know our shoppers and vendors are concerned, but this isn’t going to happen fast,” Doug Bonelli said at the time. “In all likelihood, the swap meet will be there for at least a year. Sorry to see an old business like that wrapping up. It’s really sad. Jeanne and I loved running the swap meet.”
