The 2024 graduating class at Canyon High School celebrated their four years of achievements Tuesday, with reminders to remember the past, while forging their own paths.

Approximately 428 seniors graduated from Canyon High School’s Class of 2024 on Tuesday night, marking the end of their high school years and the start of a new chapter as they go on to jobs, universities, and the rest of their lives.

“The road ahead may be windy, but with your determination and the support of friends and family. I have no doubt that you will achieve greatness,” said Principal Shellie Holcombe. “Class of 2024 May your futures be bright, your hearts be full, your dreams soar higher than ever before. And remember, be so good you cannot be ignored.”

Valedictorians Josephine Regez and Jameson Roberts advised their peers to cherish the memories and experiences shared with classmates, some of whom had shared classrooms for 13 years through elementary, middle and high school.

“In the end, as we walk out into the world, I hope all of our hard work and self-determination continues to pay off,” Roberts said. “I wish all of my fellow Cowboys, all of us who have been beside each other these past four years, the best of luck in our endeavors as we move along our various paths. Thank you for standing with me all these years and congratulations to all.”

Daniela Reyes’ bilingual senior speech, presented in English and Spanish, reflected on the roaming journey undertaken by the Canyon High School class of 2024. She highlighted how the class has gone from online Zoom lectures during the COVID-19 pandemic to returning to school in person.

“The most important thing I would like to leave with you all for the very last time as we celebrate this final moment is we leave an important mark on this school, and our adventure does not end here. We are cowboys. We are one. We are Canyon High School’s class of 2024.”

Fellow student Jake Dela Cruz similarly encouraged his fellow students to keep looking to the future, closing with a thinly veiled reference to the popular anime “Attack on Titan.”

“No matter where we go, what we do, where we end up, we’re a family who endures the cruelties of this world. We Cowboys push forward. We Cowboys scream out. We Cowboys rage!”

As the graduates embarked on pursuing their individual dreams and goals, the speeches inspired them to hold onto lessons learned and experience while forging their own paths boldly into the future.

William S. Hart Union High School District governing board members Dr. Cherisse Moore and Erin Wilson, as well as Superintendent Mike Kuhlman, congratulated the students for their achievements, and conferred upon them the right to transfer their tassels, signifying their graduation.
