During the 2024 Golden Valley High School graduation, students reflected on a memorable four years and are looking forward to an adventurous lifetime of accomplishments.

Megan Moreno, one of two senior speakers, reflected on how much of a privilege it is to get a high school diploma coming from two immigrant parents who were unable to attend high school.

“I realize that over the course of my four years at Golden Valley High School, graduating high school is something to be proud of,” said Moreno. “A high school diploma is not something everyone has the privilege of receiving.”

Moreno reflected on how her mother wished she graduated so her life would be easier. Then, she shared how her father would walk past the schools in his home country, praying he could go to school one day.

“To you, mom and dad, I want you to know that this diploma is yours as much as it is mine,” said Moreno.

The second senior speaker, Michleen Tissan, was able to reflect on her time at Golden Valley, remembering all the Friday night football games, nights at In-N-Out and times spent talking with friends.

“You may think this is the end of our journey, but really, it is just the start of a whole new adventure,” said Tissan. “Now, here we are about to enter the world with nothing but a diploma and a vague sense of what we are going to do with our lives.”

Despite beginning their high school journey online due to COVID-19, the Golden Valley Class of 2024 managed to have 80 gold robe graduates, all of whom maintained a 4.0 GPA or higher through their seventh semester.

The 80 gold robe graduates comprised 17% of the 480 graduating students, tying for the second-most in the school’s 18 years.

Accomplishing many things already, the last thing to do for the Golden Valley graduating class was to move their tassels from left to right, signifying their graduation.
