To kick off the season, the Coyotes ran wild, scoring six touchdowns in their 45-7 win over the Adelanto Saints, three of which came from senior running back Monty Coleman.

Despite only having three years of football experience, Coleman played like a veteran, with two first-half rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown in the fourth quarter.

“He’s a dude. The ceiling for him is just so high,” said Head Coach Sirr Guy Shakir. “He’s instrumental in pretty much everything we do.”

To complement Coleman’s strong rushing performance, Castaic used a unique rotation between quarterbacks Jayden Broderick and Khanai Langford.

Both quarterbacks were tearing apart the Saint’s secondary but were also terrorizing the defense with their running ability.

While Guy-Shakir acknowledges that having a consistent rotation of two quarterbacks is different, he says it works for now.

“I know people have different philosophies and that’s okay, but we know we have two capable guys, as they both showed today, so why not play the guys that can play?” asked Shakir.

For the rest of the season, Shakir is unsure if the team will continue to utilize a two-quarterback system or revert to a one-quarterback style of play.

While Castaic’s offense was piling up points, the defense flew around and tallied four fumble recoveries, two of which came from Dominic Espinoza, who also had a sack.

“Defense played lights out. We had one brain fart where they were backed up and we didn’t have a guy on the field and gave up a 50-yard play,” said Shakir.

Other than that, Shakir feels the team played well and is looking forward to the team’s first road test against Calabasas next Friday.
