On Friday, Caltrans announced overnight lane reductions on Interstate 5 north of Castaic.

Northbound lanes are set to be reduced (from Lake Hughes Road to two miles north of Templin Highway (near the Whitaker Sand Shed) north of Castaic Monday night, September 30 through Friday night, October 4 to set up k-rail, reconfigure striping and demolish and reconstruct a box culvert.

Northbound 5 freeway is set to be reduced to two lanes from 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. and then it is scheduled to be reduced to one lane until 6 a.m., according to officials.

The northbound right lane remains closed 24/7 into November. Paving on the southbound lanes are complete.

This construction is part of a project that began in April of 2022 and the overall scope of the project includes replacing concrete slabs, upgrading drainage systems and guardrail, repairing and stabilizing slopes through rock scaling and installing geogrid, and construction of the retaining wall.

Caltrans advises motorists that Southbound Interstate 5 is set to be reduced to only one or two lanes in northern Los Angeles County between Vista Del Lago Road and Templin Highway beginning Sunday night, Sept. 29, through Friday morning, Oct. 4.

Lane closures are necessary for the safety of travelers and workers who are constructing pavement where much of the work is expected to be done at night.

At this location, Southbound 5 freeway has only three lanes due to storm damage in 2023 and crews are working to restore the Southbound 5 freeway to four lanes.

Allow extra travel time and drive with caution through the construction zone as Caltrans work to keep your freeways safe. Watch for updates at Caltrans (District 7) on X. Watch for closures and traffic conditions at Caltrans QuickMap.
