Texas DPS captures illegal immigrants from high-risk countries

HOUSTON (KIAH) — In the ongoing Operation Lone Star, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers arrested two large groups of illegal immigrants between September 30 and October 2, 2024. Among them were 27 individuals from countries with heightened terrorist activity, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan.

“These individuals were attempting to avoid detection by crossing between ports of entry,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “This activity underscores the importance of securing our border.” The 27 individuals were handed over to federal authorities for processing.

An additional 41 illegal immigrants from other countries were arrested for criminal trespass and taken to the Val Verde Processing Center.
