HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — While the Rice football team is trying to get its season back on track, there was plenty of fun to be had outside Rice Stadium on Saturday.

A handful of tailgaters came out Saturday afternoon before the Owls’ game against UTSA. The Dirty Bird Tailgaters and the Rice Tailgating Club are a couple of tailgater groups made up of Rice alumni and former Rice players who meet every home game.

While the Owls are struggling with a 1-4 record and on a three-game losing streak, some of the Owl fans are still hopeful that the team can turn it around, starting with Saturday’s game against the Roadrunners.

Dale Freeman is the father of Rice sophomore long snapper Wyatt Freeman. He and a group of family members flew in from Bakersfield, California, to see his son play.

“We got a good feeling about this game,” Dale said. “We got to win this game.”
