HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — Harris County District Judge Kelli Johnson says she’s taking a medical leave of absence.

Her spokesperson said she was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome after falling off a scooter in February.

“Judge Johnson is working with her doctors and following all of their recommendations. She looks forward to coming back to the bench fully recovered sometime right after the first of the new year,” Chris Tritico, her attorney said.

Johnson, who has served two terms as the judge of the 178th District Court, was charged with DWI over the summer, but the case was dismissed.

Judge Johnson is currently running unopposed in the November elections, and she expects to return to the bench next year.
