    Autism Speaks kicks off Summit Program

    HOUSTON ( KIAH ) – A non-profit organization focused on autism is launching a new program here in Houston. The city chapter of Autism Speaks will be inviting the community to learn and participate in activities at their Kickoff event .

    Attendees can enjoy some face painting, stilt walkers, with kids (and adults) going truck-or-treating, and more. The Summit program kick-off will be Saturday, October 26 at the Saint Arnold Brewing Company. The event will be from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

    The organization is also hosting their 9th annual 8K/5K/1K run on the 26th. You can register on their website and find out how to donate.

    According to the National Institute of Mental Health , Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, is a neurological and developmental disorder affecting how people interacting with others. Over 5 million people have autism in the U.S., with over 400,000 of them being Texans 18-84.

    Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, who were grandparents of a child with autism. The organization works to promote inclusivity, making sure those with autism reach their full potential and bring awareness to the disorder.
