How gas prices have changed in Houston in the last week

HOUSTON ( KIAH ) — The national cost for a gallon of gas is up slightly from last week as Floridians recovering from Hurricane Milton wade through higher regional prices for gas.

That upward pressure on prices should be fleeting, however, as teams work to restore access to roads, repair power lines, and replenish gas stations, according to AAA. The slight uptick in gas prices nationwide is more likely the result of escalating conflict in the Middle East. Still, gas prices are 40 cents lower than they were one year ago.

“The national average price of gasoline has returned to a slight climb over the last week as Iran’s attack on Israel has slowly funneled to the gas pump, as expected,” GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said in a statement this week.

As for the rest of Texas,  statewide gas price average in Texas is $2.81 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch. That price is one cent more than on this day last week and is 24 cents less per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Texas, drivers in Corpus Christi are paying the most on average at $2.97 per gallon while drivers in the Lubbock, Killeen, Temple, Fort Hood and Wichita Falls areas are paying the least at $2.69 per gallon.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.20, which is one cent less when compared to this day last week and 38 cents less per gallon when compared to this day last year.

Barring another hurricane, gas prices will likely settle into the typical fall pattern seen each year. While prices in some areas remain slightly elevated following Hurricane Milton, AAA Texas expects drivers will start to see savings in the weeks to come. The switchover to the cheaper winter-blend gasoline is underway.

“Gas prices should begin to settle into the typical pattern we see each autumn season,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “Prices usually tend to trend lower thanks to the switchover to the cheaper winter-blend fuel.”

Stacker compiled statistics on gas prices in the Houston area using data from AAA . Gas prices are current as of Oct. 15.
