‘Not A Sexy Offense, But A Good Offense’: Mina Kimes Sees Effective Steelers Offense In 2024
To win in today’s NFL, the Pittsburgh Steelers believe they have a good formula to do so, leaning on a star-studded defense to keep games low-scoring and then hoping that improvements made offensively can be enough to score points on a consistent basis. In recent years, the Steelers have...
Pirates rally with big 10th inning to salvage win against Diamondbacks
Ke’Bryan Hayes hit a two-run single to highlight a four-run tenth inning and the Pittsburgh Pirates held on to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 6-5, on Sunday afternoon in Phoenix, Ariz. Oneil Cruz homered for the second straight game and scored two runs and Andrew McCutchen singled and walked for...
Tyler Matakevich Grateful To Be Reunited With Danny Smith: ‘He Puts You In The Right Places To Be Successful’
The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t made many roster moves recently, even though fans would probably love to see them trade for a wide receiver. Their most recent pickup of Tyler Matakevich might be one of their most underrated moves. Everyone loves talking about quarterbacks and pass rushers and all the flashy parts of the team, but the Steelers are aware of how important it is to have players who do the dirty work. Specifically, the depth players who play a crucial role on special teams. Matakevich should provide a steady, veteran presence to the Steelers, and it seems like he couldn’t be happier to be back.
Pirates 2B Nick Gonzales (groin) placed on 10-day IL
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed second baseman Nick Gonzales on the 10-day injured list on Sunday due to a groin injury. Gonzales injured his left groin while running out an infield grounder during the sixth inning of Saturday night’s 9-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington...

Dan’s Daily: Why John Gibson Wasn’t Traded; Future Penguins Core
The Pittsburgh Penguins prospects countdown reached No. 1 Sunday, and there is a new top dog in the 2024 PHN rankings. Unlike in years past, when compiling the list, it felt like the Penguins had a future. I dare submit that Penguins fans might want to borrow a page from the Pirates fans and start to like prospects coverage. Elsewhere in the Daily, Eric Stephens answered the question, why haven’t the Anaheim Ducks traded John Gibson? After all, the guy has been on the NHL trade block and has wanted out of Anaheim for at least two years. Colleagues slapped a grade on the Philadelphia Flyers signing Travis Konecny to a huge contract, our Detroit colleagues shined a light on the player development of the Detroit Red Wings, and dreams do come true in Florida.
Pirates rally with tying run in 9th inning, 4 in 10th to beat Diamondbacks 6-5
PHOENIX — Ji Hwan Bae scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in Pittsburgh's four-run 10th inning, Joey Bart hit a tying run-scoring double in the ninth and the Pirates rallied to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5. Arizona took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning, only to see it fall apart. Pinch hitter Rowdy Tellez led off the ninth inning with a double against Paul Sewald. Bart followed with a two-out double to tie it. The blown save was Sewald's fourth in 20 chances. Bae scored on a wild pitch by Justin Martinez after opening the 10th inning with a bunt single. Martinez then hit Alika Williams with a pitch to score another run and Ke'Bryan Hayes made it 6-2 with a two-run bloop single.

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens finds new ways to establish himself as a team leader
LATROBE, Pa. — Wide receiver George Pickens is finding new ways to establish himself as a leader in his third season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The team traded six-year veteran Diontae Johnson to Carolina in March after Pickens had a breakout second season. Now, the 23-year-old Pickens is the Steelers' longest-tenured wide receiver and the only one on the roster with a 1,000-yard season.
Fittipaldo: Zach Azzanni, Arthur Smith Will ‘Get The Most’ Out Of Steelers’ Receivers
As part of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive overhaul, they hired Zach Azzanni to be their new wide receiver coach. Azzanni has garnered a reputation of someone who’s going to push his guys, and despite a wide receiver room that may be underwhelming on paper, Azzanni could make it work. On the No. 1 Cochran Sports Showdown, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that even if the Steelers don’t add at receiver, Azzanni and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith will get the most out of the room they have.
Training Camp Report: July 28
LATROBE, Pa. – It's time. Time for the acclimation period to be over and for the players to put on the pads. For the players undoubtedly, it's time for a day off. And using a more narrow focus, it was time for the offense to assert itself during 7-Shots.

Russell Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ incoming quarterback, opted to get the Disney trip out of the way before the season even started. Last week, Wilson and his wife,...

Nearly 100 minutes before former President Donald J. Trump took the stage in Butler, Pa., a local countersniper who was part of the broader security detail let his colleagues know his shift was ending. “Guys I am out. Be safe,” he texted to a group of colleagues at 4:19 p.m....
