George Pickens Not Worried About Being Double-Teamed: ‘Gonna Be The Same Treatment’
With the Pittsburgh Steelers trading WR Diontae Johnson and not adding another similar-caliber receiver this offseason, WR George Pickens is going to face more attention from opposing defenses. But the increase in attention isn’t a concern for Pickens. “When Diontae was here, we were both being double-teamed. So it’s...
Steelers' Winners And Losers From First Week Of 2024 Training Camp
The Pittsburgh Steelers will enjoy a day off on Monday before putting on the pads come Tuesday's training camp practice. The first week was highlighted by a sudden calf injury to Russell Wilson, which highlighted the play of Justin Fields. The veteran in Wilson is expected to be back for the second week and it will be interesting to see how he operates with the first-team offense. After an exciting few practices, the coaching staff is likely already getting an idea of how the 53-man roster should be formed. Things can change when the pads go on, but for now, there...
Michael A. Taylor's homer lifts Pirates over Astros
Michael A. Taylor clubbed a tiebreaking three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to help the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates earn a 5-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Monday. After Oneil Cruz delivered a game-tying RBI double off Astros reliever Ryan Pressly in the top of the eighth, Taylor -- an injury substitute in the fifth -- followed walks by Ke'Bryan Hayes and Jared Triolo with a 421-foot blast to left-center field off Astros closer Josh Hader (4-6). The Pirates lost both right fielder Joshua Palacios (hamstring) and center fielder Ji Hwan Bae (knee) to injuries. Pirates closer David Bednar issued a bases-loaded walk to Yordan Alvarez with two outs in the ninth but notched his 19th save by retiring Yainer Diaz on an infield popup. Pirates right-hander Paul Skenes delivered a quality start, but the Astros made the rookie star labor over the second half of his six-inning stint. Skenes allowed just one baserunner over his first three frames, courtesy of a leadoff single by Jose Altuve in the first, before dealing with traffic in the fourth. However, Skenes induced a 4-6-3 double-play grounder from Alvarez that erased Alex Bregman following Bregman's leadoff single. The subsequent Skenes-Bregman confrontation in the fifth proved to be pivotal, for it came after the Astros snagged a 2-0 lead when Altuve hit a sharp grounder that Hayes misplayed at third base, allowing Jon Singleton and Jake Meyers to score. With Victor Caratini and Altuve on base and one out, Bregman just missed a three-run homer when his fly ball sailed just outside of the left field foul pole. Skenes rallied with a strikeout of Bregman, then escaped the inning when Alvarez's grounder struck Altuve in the basepath. Skenes induced an inning-ending double play in the sixth with Jeremy Pena on third, with Hayes making a nifty stop of Meyers' grounder to initiate the play. Skenes allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks to go along with six strikeouts. It marked his eighth consecutive start allowing two runs or fewer. The Astros scratched rookie right-hander Jake Bloss from his start, as they dealt him to the Toronto Blue Jays as part of a package that netted veteran left-hander Yusei Kikuchi. That thrust right-handed reliever Tayler Scott into the role of opener, and Scott delivered three perfect innings that included four strikeouts. Astros right-hander Kaleb Ort, recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land earlier Monday, followed by retiring the first eight batters he faced before grooving a 2-1 fastball to nine-hole hitter Yasmani Grandal, who promptly smacked his fourth home run of the year to the facing of the second deck in right field. That solo blast, the first hit of the game for the Pirates, sliced Pittsburgh's deficit to 2-1. --Field Level Media.
Zach Frazier Taking It ‘Day By Day,’ Not Worried About Pressure Of Being Early-Round Draft Pick
Players have little control over where they are drafted, but the pressure and expectations placed on them are often directly related to which round they were taken in. Just a couple of decades ago, rookies were often developed behind veteran players before cracking the starting lineup, but anyone taken over the first two days of the draft is expected to make an immediate impact on the roster. That is why there are high expectations for Zach Frazier, who was selected in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in April.
Pirates acquire lefty reliever Jalen Beeks from Rockies
The Pittsburgh Pirates added a lefty arm to their bullpen Monday evening, acquiring 31-year-old Jalen Beeks from the Colorado Rockies. In exchange, the Pirates sent 23-year-old left-hander Luis Peralta to Colorado. Beeks has made a career-high 45 appearances this year with the Rockies, going 6-4 with a 4.74 ERA in...
QB Nate Yarnell can't do it alone, so here are 5 units that need to step up for Pitt this season
Jul. 29—Before compiling a list of the most important players who will populate the Beano Cook Fields when Pitt begins prepping for a new season Wednesday, we need to first identify the obvious choice for leader of the class: The quarterback, Nate Yarnell. There are several players who are as important as Yarnell, who is entering his junior season. (Has it been two years already?) But no one ...
ESPN NFL insider predicts Justin Fields starts Week 1 for Pittsburgh Steelers
ESPN insider Dan Graziano predicted Justin Fields will be the Week 1 starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers over Russell Wilson. When the Steelers signed Wilson, it was logical to think he was the starter. But once they acquired Fields, things got interesting. It could very well be the twilight of...

Steelers Release Defensive Back
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the most consistent teams in the NFL over the past two decades. Sure, the Steelers haven’t made a Super Bowl run in years, but, as many fans are aware, Mike Tomlin has never coached this team to a record under .500. No...
Roman Wilson: George Pickens Has Been ‘A Great Leader’
In a wide-open Pittsburgh Steelers receiver room, rookie third-round pick Roman Wilson has the chance to play a big role for the Steelers in his first season. George Pickens is the undisputed No. 1 receiver for the team, and Wilson said Pickens has taken on a leadership role and has been a “great leader.”
Red Sox acquire former first-round pick in trade with Pirates
Priester, 23, was Pittsburgh’s first-round draft pick in 2019. He has struggled thus far in the majors, going 5-9 with a 6.46 ERA in 20 games over the past two seasons. Priester has predominantly been a starting pitcher but was moved to the bullpen this month. Yorke is batting...
2023 NFL O-Line Zone Blocking Study
Today, I wanted to circle back to the offensive line position, examining zone-blocking data from Sports Info Solutions (SIS). The topic is intriguing, considering new Pittsburgh Steelers OC Arthur Smith has utilized zone-blocking concepts at a high rate in his previous coaching stops. That means it’s reasonable to expect to...
Pittsburgh Is Smart To Carefully Handle Russell Wilson’s Calf Injury – Just Ask The Bengals
I get the anxiety that can come with the headline of “Russell Wilson misses the Pittsburgh Steelers first four practices.” Proven and veteran as he is, Wilson is still new to the team in an offense that has been completely revamped. Reps are reps and they’re all valuable. Still, Mike Tomlin has taken the right approach. Being conservative is prudent, ensuring Wilson’s small injury doesn’t become a big one.
Why New Red Sox Pitcher Could Thrive In Boston After Trade From Pirates
The Boston Red Sox entered the trade deadline likely looking to make moves to improve the 2024 team in the middle of a playoff race. There’s still time to do that before Tuesday evening at 6 p.m., but Boston kept its eyes on the future in a deal involving a pair of former first-round selections.

UPDATE (2:50 P.M. ET): It’s official, with both teams announcing the trade Monday. The Red Sox acquired right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester from the Pirates in exchange for infield/outfield prospect Nick Yorke. Boston optioned Priester to Triple-A Worcester. ORIGINAL STORY: The Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates reportedly tapped into...
Red Sox trade prospect Nick Yorke to Pirates in swap of former first-round picks
The Red Sox once again dipped into their middle infield depth in order to complete a trade with the Pirates on Monday afternoon. In exchange for right-hander Quinn Priester, Boston traded infield prospect Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh. Yorke becomes the third young infielder to be dealt by the Red Sox in the last three days, joining Eddinson Paulino and Cutter Coffey, who were shipped off to the Blue Jays alongside righty Gilberto Batista for catcher Danny Jansen on Saturday. Yorke, 22, entered Monday ranked by Baseball America as the No. 14 prospect in Boston’s farm system. The right-handed hitter had batted .310/.408/.490...
Pirates' phenom Paul Skenes notches 100th strikeout in just 13 MLB starts
Paul Skenes' already amazing season continues to become even more impressive. The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie – and All-Star Game starter for the National League – tallied the 100th strikeout of his nascent major league career in Monday's matchup with the Houston Astros. The milestone whiff occurred in the second inning with Skenes whiffing Jon Singleton on an 88 mph changeup.
Fantasy Football Player Profile 2024: Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren
• Jaylen Warren dominates on the ground in most situations: The Steelers running back ranks in the 90th percentile or better in half of the metrics tracked in the player profile series. • The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ offensive coordinator adds uncertainty: New OC Arthur Smith runs the ball at a very...
