Steelers rookie WR Roman Wilson carted off with ankle injury
One Wilson inched closer to returning and another left Pittsburgh Steelers training camp practice on a cart. Steelers rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson left Tuesday's practice for tests on his ankle and head coach Mike Tomlin was visibly concerned about his status. He appeared to sustain an ankle injury while being tackled on a jet sweep during a short-yardage drill. Tomlin said the injury to Wilson was unfortunate just as veteran quarterback Russell Wilson was taking the field for position drills. "Roman hurt his ankle in a tackle and they are evaluating him," Tomlin said. "To have more information on the extent of the injury and how long he could be out." Russell Wilson has been dealing with a strained calf and spent the first week of camp on the sideline at Tomlin's urging. Roman Wilson, 23, was a third-round pick (84th overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Michigan. He's expected to play a significant role for the Steelers, who traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers. He caught 48 passes for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns for the national champion Wolverines in 2023. --Field Level Media.

Steelers’ Patrick Queen 'Started Getting In People’s Faces' During Intense Practice
This offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a significant move by signing free agent linebacker Patrick Queen to a three-year, $41 million contract. Queen, who took a couple of million dollars less to join the Steelers, expressed his desire to be part of a team with Super Bowl aspirations. The excitement surrounding Queen’s addition to the Steelers' inside linebacker group is palpable. The squad was already talented, and bringing in a star player like Queen represents a major boost for the organization. Adding to the intrigue, Queen was acquired from the Steelers' AFC North rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, where he had established...
Ex-Michigan rookie receiver exits Steelers’ practice with injury
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Michigan receiver Roman Wilson in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft with the hope that he could provide an immediate boost to the offense. It appears the 5-foot-10, 186-pounder might miss some time after exiting Tuesday’s training camp practice with an ankle injury. It’s unclear how long Wilson might be out, but according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, he is considered “week-to-week” but will be “OK.”
Reports: Pirates add LHP Jalen Beeks in deal with Rockies
The red-hot Pittsburgh Pirates acquired left-handed pitcher Jalen Beeks from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for minor league left-hander Luis Peralta, MLB.com and USA Today reported Monday. Pirates acquire Jays’ Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Marlins’ Bryan De La Cruz
With an eye on a playoff push, the Pittsburgh Pirates added two new bats ahead of the MLB trade deadline. The Pirates acquired outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from the Miami Marlins and utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday. The Pirates dealt infield prospect Garret Forrester and right-handed pitching prospect Jun-Seok Shim to Miami for De La Cruz, and they sent infield/outfield prospect Charles McAdoo to Toronto in the Kiner-Falefa deal. In Kiner-Falefa, the Pirates are getting a player who has appeared as a second baseman, third baseman, shortstop, outfielder and emergency pitcher this season alone. The 29-year-old is batting a career-best .292 with seven home runs and 33 RBIs in 82 games in his first season with Toronto. Across 729 career games for the Texas Rangers (2018-21), New York Yankees (2022-23) and Blue Jays, Kiner-Falefa is a .264 hitter with 33 homers, 236 RBIs and 77 stolen bases. McAdoo, now heading to Toronto, is batting .315 in 87 games between High-A and Double-A this season. The 22-year-old was the No. 29 prospect in the Pirates' system, according to MLB Pipeline. De La Cruz, 27, led the Marlins with 18 home runs and 51 RBIs while batting .245 in 105 games this season. He is one homer away from tying his career high set last year. In 431 career games for Miami since debuting in 2021, De La Cruz has batted .258 with 55 homers and 191 RBIs. Shim, 20, was the No. 17 prospect in the Pirates' farm system, and Forrester, 22, is No. 18. Earlier in the day, Pittsburgh acquired left-handed relief pitcher Josh Walker from the New York Mets for minor league left-hander Nicolas Carreno. --Field Level Media.

The milestone whiff occurred in the second inning with Skenes whiffing Jon Singleton on an 88 mph changeup.
Steelers' QB Competition Completely Alive As Justin Fields Finishes A Near Perfect Practice
The Pittsburgh Steelers seemed to be fairly set on starting Russell Wilson during the 2024 season, but his calf injury to kick off training camp has certainly placed some skepticism around that plan. While Wilson has been extremely limited, Justin Fields has been able to take advantage of the first-team reps he has been receiving. Fields hasn't taken over the starting job, but he has certainly made a dent in the gap that was originally between the two quarterbacks. Wilson's injury isn't considered serious, but the team is taking the necessary precautions to ensure that the small issue remains a small one. In that...
Darnell Washington Ready To ‘Go Out There And Smash Some People’ In Padded Practices
Today marked the beginning of the second week of training camp for the Pittsburgh Steelers and also the first day that players put pads on. While players obviously aren’t going as hard as they would in a game, it’s still the first opportunity to see this new group really get physical. Some players on their roster are suited better for football with pads on as well, with their games predicated on physicality. Tight end Darnell Washington might be the player who benefits the most from pads being put on, though, given his massive size and frame.
