West Leechburg residents set to take assessment complaints to county courthouse
West Leechburg residents are preparing to take their complaints about property assessments directly to Westmoreland County commissioners. After months, and in some cases years, of complaints about what residents say is an unfair property tax system, frustrations peaked this spring when Leechburg Area School District property taxes increased 10.4% in West Leechburg, while Leechburg and Gilpin property taxes decreased 2.9%.
Reassessing Potential Pirates Trade Targets on Deadline Day
The Pittsburgh Pirates made a pair of trades on Monday, but general manager Ben Cherington is still looking to upgrade the offense ahead of the trade deadline. The Pirates traded right-handed pitcher Quinn Priester to the Boston Red Sox for infield prospect Nick Yorke. Yorke was assigned to Triple-A Indianapolis. Later in the day, the Pirates acquired left-handed relief pitcher Jalen Beeks from the Colorado Rockies.
