Coast Guard Band to perform July 21 in Killingworth
The United States Coast Guard Band presents the first performance of its free Summer Concert Series at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 21, at Parmelee Farms, 465 Route 81, Killingworth.
Each summer, the Coast Guard Band performs throughout Connecticut, bringing free outdoor concerts to communities all over the state. The program includes wind band hits, rousing marches, patriotic classics and featured soloists under the baton of Commander Adam Williamson.
Trombonist MU1 Connor Rowe is featured on the virtuosic concerto “Blue Bells of Scotland” by Arthur Pryor, and soprano MU1 Allison Landstedt will sing a theatrical medley of Rogers and Hammerstein hits.

Author event at Mystic & Noank Library
The Mystic & Noank Library is hosting its third annual author event featuring Hampton Sides from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at Snediker Yacht Restoration, 35 Campground Road, Old Mystic, promising an evening of literary inspiration and community engagement, as well as food and drink.
The event will include a talk by Hampton Sides, known for his gripping narrative nonfiction works such as “In the Kingdom of Ice,” “Hellhound on His Trail” and “Blood and Thunder.” Sides will discuss his latest book, “The Wide Wide Sea” about Capt. James Cook, with Rick Koster. Koster, who spent years as a professional rock musician before coming to The Day as an arts writer in 1997, has interviewed authors Richard Russo and Erik Larson in a previous event.
At Snediker Yacht Restoration, guests will enjoy the sight of Doris, originally built by Herreshoff Manufacturing Co. in 1905 and currently undergoing a complete restoration.

Jedi of Kessel Temple event July 27 at Bill library
The Jedi of Kessel Temple will journey to the Bill Memorial Library in the City of Groton at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27. Young people ages 6-12 will learn about the ways of the Force and how to wield a light saber from real Jedi Masters.

Stonington Village Fair coming Aug. 3
The Stonington Community Center’s 72nd annual Stonington Village Fair returns from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Wadawanuck Square, 22 High St. in Stonington.
The fair will include classic children’s games and prizes, an artisan row showcasing the talents of over 50 local artists, live musical performances and eats from popular food trucks like Captain Scott’s Lobster Dock and Taqueria Cinco, along with sweets from Chet’s Italian Ice.
There will be plenty to explore with the Annual Book Sale, a partnership with the Stonington Free Library, floral arrangements from the Stonington Garden Club and loaves of Portuguese sweet bread, a local favorite. Art enthusiasts will have the opportunity to purchase handcrafted pottery from the COMO Pottery Studio.
This year's commemorative poster, illustrated by Susan Scala, features the Lighthouse Museum. Posters and sweet bread can be ordered online in advance at thecomo.org/village-fair.

Veterans council to host Korean War ceremony
The Norwich Area Veterans Council will conduct a Korean War commemoration ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The ceremony will be at Richard E. Hourigan VFW Post 594, 30 Connecticut Ave., Norwich Industrial Park. Several Korean War veterans will be in attendance.
Learn to fish at Fort Trumbull
The Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education program offers a variety of Learn to Fish classes and events year-round. Fishing events are designed for adults ages 16 and older, as well as families with children age 6 and above.
Locally, classes are held at Fort Trumbull State Park in New London on the following dates and times: 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. July 27; 4-6:30 p.m. July 31; 1-4 p.m. Aug. 4; 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 10 and 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 13.
The CARE program will provide loaner fishing equipment, bait and instruction. A Conservation Identification Number is required to register. Participants ages 16 and up must have a valid Connecticut fishing license. Participants ages 15 and younger must obtain a free CID before registering and have the option to register for a YOUth Fishing Passport.

Fitch High Class of 1972 celebration
The Robert E. Fitch Senior High School Class of 1972 will hold a 70th birthday celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Groton Elks. Toastmasters to meet July 24 in Mystic
The Mystic Aquarium Toastmasters Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday of every month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Milne Center, next to the Aquarium.

The annual George House Tag Sale at Lyme Public Hall will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 14. The sale will feature housewares, furniture, tools, jewelry and unexpected treasures. Proceeds will go toward the maintenance of the historic 1887 Lyme Public Hall, Lyme’s Bacdayan Local History Archives and programs for the public.

Griswold voter session July 26 for Republican primary
The Griswold Registrars of Voters will hold a session to enroll or register electors entitled to vote in the Aug. 13 Republican Primary and to hear requests for adding names to the registry list by those removed.
The session will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, July 26, at 28 Main St..
