A jockey died shortly after winning a horse race at the Neshoba County Fair.

Officials from the Neshoba County Coroner’s Office report that Jarrod Deschamp, 52, of Kiln, died on Wednesday after he collapsed on the way to the barn after winning at the harness racing track at the Mississippi county fair.

Officials say Deschamp died after experiencing respiratory complications.

Known as Mississippi’s Giant House Party, the fair is an annual event of agricultural, political, and social entertainment held a few miles from Philadelphia, Mississippi. It was first established in 1889 and is the nation’s largest campground fair.

The harness races are one of the most popular events at the fair each year.
