    The Statesville Police Department has announced they will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 22, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will take place at Walgreen’s, located at 951 Davie Avenue.

    The event was created as an anonymous disposal of prescription medication across the country. Old, unwanted, and expired prescriptions will be accepted. The Statesville Police will also accept sharps and syringes at the Statesville event.

    Keeping medication around the house that is no longer in use can often get in the wrong hands and be a hazard in the community. This event is a good time to get rid of medications prescribed for your family members, the recently deceased, and others who no longer have need of the medication.

    The Statesville Police Department has a box for prescription disposal inside the Statesville Police Department at 327 S. Tradd St. This box can be used to dispose of medications as needed on an ongoing basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    Other ongoing disposal locations in Iredell County include:

    * Mooresville Police Department - 750 West Iredell Ave., Mooresville (Available 24/7)

    * Iredell County Sheriff’s Office - 230 North Tradd St., Statesville (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday)

    * Troutman Town Hall - 400 N. Eastway Dr., Troutman (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday)

    While taking medication to these locations provides the safest and easiest way to dispose of it, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration has put together some guidance to dispose of medications safely. You can find that information here.

    National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Is a good reminder to include your medicine cabinets in spring cleaning and keep our community safer.
