HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — It was a day that Trevor McKinney will look back on and wonder, ‘What could have been?’ But despite several hiccups, the Tackle Warehouse Elite Qualifier pro managed to land 22 pounds, 3 ounces on Day 2 of the St. Croix Bassmaster Open at Lake St. Clair presented by SEVIIN to retain his lead with a two-day total of 49-15. The Noble, Ill., native took the Day 1 lead with the tournament’s biggest bag, a 27-12 limit of smallmouth that gave him a 3-pound advantage over the field. That lead has now shrunk to 11 ounces over Jay Przekurat and Aaron Jagdfeld, who both have a two-day total of 49-4.
Reconstruction of Lapeer Ave. from 24th to 16th on tap for next year
PORT HURON — A busy section of Lapeer Avenue is slated for reconstruction next year under an engineering agreement OK’d by city officials this week. City Council members signed off on a $373,840 agreement with Rowe Professional Services on Monday for the project to rehab Lapeer between 16th and 24th streets.
GM Supplier Gestamp To Invest $390M In Michigan Facilities
Gestamp, a Spanish automotive supplier and one of the world’s largest body-in-white and chassis suppliers is constructing a new $64.5 million production facility in Chesterfield Township, Michigan. The new Chesterfield facility is part of a broader $390 million investment from Gestamp into the company’s various Michigan facilities. The new Chesterfield plant is set to supply GM with steel blanks for electric vehicle assemblies at The General’s Orion Assembly plant.

Sea Cadets meet with director before archeology expedition
HARRISON TOWNSHIP — Ahead of an excursion to Lake Huron to search for remnants of World War II history, local Sea Cadets got to meet with the organization’s top executive. The United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps is a U.S. Navy-sponsored organization that works to prepare young adults ages 13-17 with maritime skills in line with organizations like the Navy and United States Merchant Marine. Locally, the USNSCC’s Great Lakes Division operates out of Harrison Township with the Pride of Michigan, a converted 80-foot-long training ship that is currently equipped for research voyages and scuba diving. The Pride of Michigan was acquired in 1989.
